One product, two markets: Turkish and EU labels

Turn information into action.

Turkish and EU food information rules use similar concepts, but one label should not be assumed sufficient for both markets. Product category, language and responsible operator details are the initial assessment topics.

The EU review considers Regulation (EU) 1169/2011, while the Turkish review considers Turkish Food Codex regulations. National rules in the destination Member State and product-specific regulations are checked separately.

A practical starting point is a separate requirements matrix for each market. Shared technical documents, such as recipes and analyses, are linked to the matrices, while country-specific label versions are tracked separately.

The same product data, a different review framework

Recipes, supplier specifications and analytical sources may be shared. However, label presentation, language and product-specific wording are reviewed for each market. Begin with two requirements lists to compare, rather than assuming one label will serve both markets.

How do you build a country matrix?

Use review topics as rows and target countries as columns. Match your documents to product name, allergen presentation, nutrition declaration, claims, operator details and sales channel. Separating shared fields from matters needing local verification shows which packaging areas require reassessment.

Why might translating a claim be insufficient?

A nutrition or health statement assessed for one market cannot be assumed usable under the same conditions in another. Meaning, product data, context and accompanying information are considered together. Include marketing text in the same review list instead of keeping it separate from packaging files.

Moving to markets outside the EU

For markets such as the USA, Gulf or Canada, an earlier EU dossier can provide technical background but does not replace a local label assessment. Select the country in the world directory and identify the available product documents and packaging version to make the review scope concrete.
